Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 28 August 2026

1. Agreement to terms

By accessing or using BowelAware, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Not medical advice

BowelAware is a self-tracking and education tool. It is not a medical device, diagnostic service or substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Always seek the advice of a qualified health professional for any health concerns. See our Not medical advice page for more detail.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or use the service under the supervision of a parent or guardian, to create an account. By registering, you represent that the information you provide is accurate and complete.

4. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.

5. User content

You retain ownership of the diary entries, notes and photos you create. You grant BowelAware a limited licence to store, process and display that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you.

You must not upload content that is illegal, abusive, infringing, malicious or that contains another person's personal information without their consent.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the service, including by attempting to access another user's account, interfere with our systems, distribute malware, or use the service for any unlawful purpose.

7. Appointments and reminders

Appointments you record are private to you. Administrators cannot view them and they are never included in GP reports, AI summaries, exports or shared links. Reminder and notification delivery depends on your device, browser and permissions, and may be delayed or missed. Do not rely on BowelAware reminders as your only prompt for a medical appointment.

8. Stories and community submissions

Stories you submit are reviewed by an administrator before publication and may be edited, declined, unpublished or removed at our discretion. By submitting a story you confirm it is your own experience, that you have consent from anyone else mentioned or pictured, and you grant us a non-exclusive licence to publish it on BowelAware. You can ask us to remove your published story at any time.

9. AI features

The GP summary and story editing assistant are optional AI-supported tools. AI output may contain errors and must be reviewed by you before you accept, share or rely on it. AI features never provide diagnosis, risk estimates or treatment advice, and you remain responsible for the content you accept and publish or share.

10. Sharing the app

Share tools only pass on our public web address. We record anonymous counts of shares and partner referral clicks, which include no health information and are not linked to your identity.

11. Installing and offline use

You may install BowelAware to your device home screen. Pages you have visited are cached for offline use; new entries need an internet connection to save. Uninstalling the app or clearing site data removes the cache.

12. Intellectual property

The BowelAware name, logo, design, articles and software are owned by us or licensed to us. You may not copy, modify or distribute them without our prior written permission, except as permitted by law.

13. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by Australian law, BowelAware is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the service, including any health decisions made based on information presented in the app.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Australian consumer law.

14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or if required by law. You may delete your account and data at any time from the app.

15. Governing law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any dispute arising in connection with the service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland and the Commonwealth of Australia.

16. Changes to terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
