This is not medical advice

BowelAware is designed to help you notice, track and talk about bowel health. It is not a substitute for care from a qualified health professional.

What BowelAware is

  • A private diary for recording bowel symptoms, habits and concerns.
  • A tool to spot patterns over time and prepare for a GP appointment.
  • A source of general Australian screening and support information.
  • A private place to note upcoming doctor or specialist appointments.
  • A facts-only summary generator that describes what you have recorded, without diagnosing or estimating risk.

What BowelAware is not

  • A medical device, diagnostic tool or clinical decision support system.
  • A source of personalised medical advice, diagnosis or treatment recommendations.
  • A replacement for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program or your GP.
  • An emergency service. If you or someone else is seriously unwell, call Triple Zero (000) or go to the nearest emergency department.

About the "Summarise for my GP" feature

The AI-generated GP summary only restates the facts you have entered into your diary. It does not interpret those facts, suggest a diagnosis, estimate your risk of bowel cancer, or recommend treatment. The summary is intended to help you communicate with your doctor; your doctor remains responsible for clinical assessment and advice.

About the AI story editor

The optional story editing assistant only improves spelling, grammar, punctuation and wording of a story you write. It does not add facts, offer medical advice, suggest a diagnosis or estimate risk. You always review and approve any suggested version before it is used, and published stories are personal experiences, not medical guidance.

Reminders are not a clinical service

Diary, GP prompt and appointment reminders depend on your device, browser and notification permissions, and may be delayed or missed. Please do not rely on them as your only prompt for medical care or an appointment.

Screening information is general

The screening guidance we publish reflects general Australian recommendations. Your personal screening plan may differ based on your symptoms, family history, other health conditions and your doctor's advice. If you have symptoms, do not wait for a screening kit — see your GP.

No doctor-patient relationship

Using BowelAware does not create a doctor-patient, therapist-patient or any other healthcare relationship between you and BowelAware, its operators or contributors.

If you are worried

If you notice persistent changes in your bowel habits, bleeding, unexplained weight loss, ongoing pain, or anything else that concerns you, make an appointment with your GP as soon as possible. Early conversations save lives.
